DUMBO's cobblestone streets and Manhattan Bridge views have made it one of the most photographed neighborhoods in New York. They have also made it, improbably, one of the city's most concentrated technology hubs.

Converted warehouses along the Brooklyn waterfront now house design agencies, software firms, and media startups packed floor to floor. The fictional platform Ferrywork recently expanded into a third building, citing a talent pool that increasingly refuses to cross the river for work.

The neighborhood's success has pushed rents to Manhattan levels, squeezing the artists and small studios that gave DUMBO its identity. But as a business address, the waterfront enclave has become a destination in its own right.
